In my 62 years of life I have come to realize that folks who treat people/customers/consignors in that manner are the most insecure; miserable people with more problems than we would like to know.
I don't know how folks like this stay in business.
Her aloofness and rudeness to me was reflective of how she feels about herself. I would say that is pretty bad.
S. & C. Summit, NJ
I walked out like a lady; said thank you; knowing I would never return to her store again.
Thank God that I don't have to resort to those mannerisms.
When a person is like that, I know I am not the only one being treated in the manner she presented.
What I didn't like was the way I was treated. ....very rudely. She said to me and my husband: "I don't want to be bothered with that stuff!' in her southern; aloof accent/demeanor.
A most sincere thank you to all at Home Again for making our downsizing so much easier!
God does have a way of humbling these folks. We are not greater or better than another; and nor should one act that way.
When the big day arrived we accompanied our mover to deliver our treasures to the shop. What a showplace! Such beautiful items in a beautiful setting with a warm friendly staff! We are delighted to know that our treasures will bring years of joy to another family.
I love shopping at this store. They have high quality items beautifully displayed. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. When you are in Summit, check them out!
When I reached Home Again, I spoke with Kathy. She couldn't have been nicer or more helpful. She asked me what we had - (which was quite a bit!), and asked if I would send her photographs. I was thrilled - the other establishments wanted me to physically bring in my items to see if they would even consider selling them. Sending Kathy the photos saved me so much time, effort and gas!
I unpacked my items and most of them were rejected by the owner. That is fine by me. One wants a certain look in their store.
It really did my heart good!
Can't say enough great things about this store. I come all the way from Brooklyn because the prices are so great and they carry the mid-century modern styled stuff I like. Very well curated and with none of the BS found at similar stores in the area (and especially in the city/BK.) The staff and especially the owner are incredibly helpful and made sure I found exactly what I needed within my budget. Definitely worth the trip if you're looking to upgrade your furniture from IKEA-fare.
We recently purchased a much smaller home in-town and were faced with the daunting task of thinning out our furniture and the collectibles we acquired over several decades. I called around to several shops to inquire if anyone would be interested in our items.
Having owned a high end consignment shop myself from 1991 to 2007; and being an appraiser/estate liquidator, I know valuable merchandise.
When I had my shops...I only treated my consignors and customers with respect and kindness. It is not what you say or reject, it is the manner in which you do so.
It is her loss. She has no idea that I liquidate; and appraise multi million dollar estates.
Today I went to a consignment shop in Summit. I brought designer and signed home accessories: silver; grand crystal pieces; hand blown antique glasses; some furniture, etc. I wanted to see how I would do with these items as this was my first time working with the shop, before bringing in my extremely valuable items and jewelry.
On the way home, we stopped by a donation only resale shop and donated all the rejects. They were thrilled! I never saw anyone go through all the boxes and bins so fast!
